Well, they all thought you were rude so perhaps you were but, the reality is you made a mistake. You had an ideal opportunity to politely put them in their place but instead, you allowed their comment to upset you and since you allowed them to make you angry, you responded (probably in a rude tone of voice - don't know I wasn't there). Let's do a rewind ... Here is how you could have cleaver handled it and shut them up once and for all. "But, how can you do that when Americans don't know how to speak English?" You pause, look down, scratch your head, **** your head to one side with your hand now on your forehead as if in deep thought, then you look him/her directly in the eye and say ... You know that is exactly what I wondered when I first got the call asking if I would be so kind as to accept the position here. I was actually about to ask that very question during the interview and then I realized that the learned members of the selection committee had specifically chosen me, an American, for a very good reason. That was the only thing that could explain why they were so adamant that I accept the position here. So, I chose not to embarrass them by asking the question and simply accepted there offer and pledged to do my very best to help out here. Now that I'm here of course, I no longer wonder why they wanted me. Good Day! Now to pull that off, you have to say it as though it actually happened just that way and you must be polite and confident. If it happens again, you might want to politely and confidently say something similar and see what reaction you get out of them.

I think you are the most rude for generalizing so many countries. By the way the English can be rude in an arrogant way just like the Americans so heads up.

Depends on where you go Stateside. New York City/North Jersey/Philly, Chicago, D.C. ... very fcking rude! (esp. Chicagoans). BTW People from Louisiana and Georgia have some attitude problems as well. A bit too arrogant for my taste.
But to go to some places such as the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Southwest... GOOD LORD!!! It's as if you went to a different country, for you'd be hard-pressed to find a more hospitable people in the world.
God bless America, in ALL of its diversity!!!

Your premise is misdirected. It's not a country issue, it is a testosterone issue. Just understand that it is a "guy" thing on steroids.
