I think that the legal drinking age should stay right where it is at. I think 21 is old enough to make your own descions on whether or not you choose to drink or not.

I think 21 is a bit too strict so luckily for me I'm NOT american.

I think 18 and 19 is perfectly fine. Which is why I will stay in Canada.

At 18 you can vote, sign for an apartment, get a loan or credit card, go to war. Yet you can't drink till you're 21 in the states. Sounds pretty stupid to me!!

I say the drinking age should be 18. You're an adult and should be able to drink then- like an adult!

Don't get me wrong- no matter what the age is, the person drinking needs to be responsible and sorry but your friend was not. People should only drink if they know their limit and yes we've all had a few too many at a party but call a cab, call a sober friend or relative. Trust me everytime I've gone drinking I've had at least 3 people who were sober and willing to come pick me up or take me home at the end of the night plus I always carry cab money. Others should do the same.

Under age kids are going to drink no matter what the legal age limit is...The fact that your friend died at 18 proves it. Sorry to hear..

In other countries where there isn't an age limit, they rarely have this problem like we have here...

So to answer your question, no. Changing the legal age won't help anything. It has too much to do with society to be of any influence.

I think we should reduce it to 18.

A lot of alcoholism and irresponsible drinking comes as a result of a high minimum age. If people were trusted to drink at a younger age, and taught how to do so responsibly, we wouldn't have to worry as much about binge drinking and things of that nature.

It's also hypocritical how we trust an 18 year old to vote, drive a car, own a gun, but not have a beer.

Im sorry about your friend. But if your friend died at 18, he was already drinking under age, and changing the age to 25 would not have made a difference.

if your friend was 18 and died even though the drinking age is 21 how would moving it to 25 help he'd still be too young to drink legally

When I was young (many years ago), the legal age was 18. We (my generation) pushed it up to 21 because so many young people were dying in drunk driving accidents. Guess what? They're still dying. So the age change did NOTHING to alter this.

Sometimes the best of intentions are based on faulty premises. If we have it to do over again, I would put it back to 18.

The legal drinking age will never stop anyone from drinking if they really want to, especially in a college setting.

I think it should be set back to 18. That's what it was in my day. I didn't even get drunk on my birthday.

Bottom line is - if you want to get drunk you'll find a way. But I think part of being a legal adult is having rights to do things you couldn't as a minor - and that does include things you're not ready to do.

Someone once said that it's not fair that at 18 you're old enough to serve your country but you're not old enough to drink. I agree.

Actually, changing the drinking age and pushing it back would cause more deaths. Your friend was 18. He wasn't old enough to drink yet but he still did, and died-I'm sorry for your loss, but the drinking age didn't effect him any-he drank anyway. I'm not against drinking in fact I used to underage drink as well-but I have realized that kids drinking (mostly who are underage) do not know their limit yet when they go off to college. Therefore the drinking age should be younger so kids are more experiecned with drinking when they go off to college.

No. It is more complicated tha that.

In France, nobody dies of alcohol poisoning. Do you know why? Because they have no age limit. Kids start drinking wine at the age of 8. But they never get obsessive about it like we do.

Laws don't solve social problems. They only create them!

With age does not necessarily come wisdom. Changing the age won't do anything. Your friend was irresponsible - even teens know their limits. I think the peer pressure thing is BS. Go back to 18 - old enough to be in the army old enough to have a few pops.

Actually, it's not alcohol posion, its alcohol overdose. They didn't name it properly. I'm for increasing the drinking age to 25. It wouldn't matter, because 15 year olds are getting it now anyway.
