I work in a Vet Hospital as a Vet. Tech and there are a lot of people who buy puppies and kittens and take them to the vet with a few problems and end up giving them up or putting them asleep because they cant afford the meds. People have to do a lot of research before buying animals, and they need to realize the responsibility of a pet. Also they should look into pet insurance.

You'd be surprised at how many pet owners have no idea what it costs to care for an animal.
I see it everyday on YA, people asking "what's wrong with my dog? I think he broke his leg. I can't afford to take him to the vet. What should I do?"
I volunteer at an animal shelter and we ask people how much they plan on spending on the care of their new pet. Some put down $5.00, some put down - whatever it takes.
You are the exception, not the rule. You are probably insulted by everyone's assumption that you don't know that it costs money to properly care for a pet. It's obvious that you HAVE considered the cost, so just ignore any comments to the contrary.

People do this because they care about the welfare of the animals. We know how many pets are abandoned in shelters all the time because people got them on a whim. If you read the questions on here day in and day out from uneducated pet owners, you would understand why it sometimes seems like answers are a little "in-your-face". People are not answering that way to be mean; it's to prevent any pets from ending up abandoned down the road.

I know a girl who's cat has asthma and she won't buy the medicine it needs. If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet. Guess they're just making sure you're a good pet owner.

Im floored at some of the ignorant things they take the poor pet to the vet for. Vets are so high anymore to try to get people to stop wasting their time for their ignorance.

My guess would be because they raised that cute cuddly little snuggly fellow from day one and want to be sure that it goes to a home where it will be well taken care of. Common Sense is LONG GONE so you can never be sure any more if buyers have thought beyond their own THIS MINUTE WANT for a puppy.

Too many people do not consider this. This is one reason why a lot of pets end up being abused or abandoned.
