A person cannot be made redundant only the job....if someone else was doing your job then the company breached your contract.

if they make someone redundant they have to leave that position vacant for so long before they re advertise to fill it! But a lot of companies just get round that by changing the job title! We need to stop letting people into the country! It annoys me because i used to work as a labourer on the building sites and i too got laid off because they could get Polish people in to do the job for a price that i would struggle to live on! There is actually a shortage of 50 pound notes in this country because of foreigners working here and sending there money back home! We are not allowed to put what we really think on here bacause if we do our comments get deleted as ladymoonlight has already said! It is all rubbish!!!!!!!! End of rant!!!

There is not a specific time limit for employers, but a tribunal, should you take a case of wrongful selection for redundancy, would take a dim view of anything under a month.

ADDED:

Dogma del is technically correct, but if the work is shared among a group of staff, then the redundancy shall be legal if it is demonstrated to be for financial or operational reasons.

This means they cannot give your work to one person...but they can give it to several.

That the work has ceased to exist is only one reason for redundancy.

They will swop the job around so that they can say it is a different job and in any case the new employee was taking on much different duties

I don't think that there is a time limit. They can always reclassify the job and call it something different, even though the tasks are similar.
