If this person is a close friend or family member, how about a memory book? Invest in a good quality leather bound photo album and start putting together photos and other mementos from your shared past. You could even ask other friends and family members for items- poems, cards, photos, whatever is meaningful. Could turn into a priceless gift that they will treasure.

An electronic dart board. This is the universal gift. Good for any person for any occasion. Most people I give one to say that it's something that they never knew how much they wanted it until they got one. And, not many people give this so the recipient wont' be getting 4 of them. They are relatively cheap (the last one I bought was about $15 at Walmart). Trust me on this one!
