I agree with each and every one of you. And some people would welcome Sharia law here in the U.S. with open arms.

A 16yo girl was hung in the streets of Iran recently for 'crimes against chasity.'

She was involved in a sexual relationship with a 54yo married man who many think was actually forcing rape upon her.

-Her reason for not going to authorities? She knew she would be blamed.

The man received 100 lashes.

The reasoning behind the fact that females are always blamed in these situations is that women are not supposed to go anywhere alone or, be in the company of only males at any time.

In the case of the 16yo, her mother died when she was a baby, her father was an absent drug addict and her grandparents, invalids dependent upon her for all shopping, care, etc. With no other relatives around, she was frequently targeted and didn't stand a chance of having any sort of decent life. Her situation in being basically alone in the world meant that she was shunned by her peers.

God Bless America!

While she isn't technically being punished for being raped, that is probably the message being sent. The effect will be that women will be even less likely than they are now to come forward after being raped. Typical for a nation under Sharia law.

That's Islam for you.

Technically, of course, she's getting the punishment not for being raped, but for being in company with an unrelated man, which is illegal under Islamic law. Note as well that the man she was in the car with when they were kidnapped and raped (He was also anally raped by the men) was also sentenced to be lashed and jailed for being with her.

The crime was apparently religiously motivated. The victims were Shia Muslims, who are despised by Saudi Arabias Sunni majority (who, of course, run the courts)

Reporting a rape - even by a single man - is a VERY dangerous proposition in a Muslim country. First off, the circumstances that put you in a position where you could be raped might be held to violate Islams rules on women not coming out from under the protection of a man - that's what's happened to this girl.

Second, it's very common for rape victims in Muslim countries to be killed by their own fathers or brothers because under Islam it's considered to bring dishonor on your family if you're raped.

Third, when you report a rape you're saying "I had sex with him, but it was rape." If the rapist is NOT convicted of the rape (And a rape conviction under Islamic law requires either a confession or the eye witness testimony of a male Muslim who actually saw the penis penetrate the vagina) then the victims rape report serves as a confession to having sex, for which she will be punished.
