Hey ladies, I'm pregnant with my first baby and I'm having an amniocentesis done in a few weeks. (His second cousin has Downs.) I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to pain but this amnio business sounds pretty painful. What's everybody's opinion?

Boy, I was terrified in the weeks before my amnio, but the pain wasn't actually very bad - not really any worse than a shot or blood draw. Just do your best to relax!

My mum had one. She said was not nearly as bad as she thought and they told her the babys sex as well, which was earlier than normal. She was glad because she got to fnd things out earlier
