Very serious indeed. It call into question the security of The ID cars scheme the security of all medical records being on line. The transmission of information by Post rather than Courier. The security of transmitting information on line and indeed the general competence of the HM Customs and Inland Revenue. It also calls into question of the wisdom of the Chancellor when these schemes were set up, in other words the competence of , The Right Honourable Gordon Brown. I do think the title Right Honourable given to a member of the Privy Council is a contradiction in terms for a politician

Although not a lover of the Labour government, this has occurred due to incompetence by the department involved, it could have happened under any government.
But heads need to roll. The fact that such sensitive information can be handled in such a way is criminal.
Just seen it in the local news(Northeast) and they say it was a courier service that lost it.
Damned incompetence and in todays electronic age why does material such as this have to be moved manually?

Well if someone finds the disk and looks at the information then it's very serious - that person will have access to all sorts of personal stuff like bank details and the like. Of course we are being told that it hasn't been found yet - I bet someone's already got hold of our details and are wrecking havoc as we speak!
