My Norton Internet/Anti-virus subscription ends in under 3wks. Norton came as a package when I bought my computer 2yrs ago. I hear all the advantages of the free AVG security so what's your experience? I'm sick of Norton but, if I download AVG, surely I can't do this while I've still got Norton? If I wait till my Norton has expired and then download AVG, I'm scared I won't be protected immediately. Help!!!

use Avira, better than AVG and the rest of the free ones, better detection rate. To be safe just download the uninstalled version of the anti virus from tinternet whichever you want to use. then disconnect from the net and uninstall norton which is crap btw using add/remove programs in control panel. Once it is uninstalled, restart, stay disconnected from the net then install your new anti virus prog..connect then to net get latest updates and everything ok

Norton may well be superb and particularly much less high priced whilst in comparison with different Anti-Virus classes, yet then, it could no longer seem to discover nor artwork effectively against Trojans and different difficult to seize viruses. So i might plenty incredibly choose for Avast or AVG loose because of the fact the two do no longer value a penny and works quietly interior the historic past. in my opinion, i do no longer use any of them different than for my undercover agent not extra application. considering the fact that i do no longer do plenty in my computer and residing house's the place I oftentimes am, I shop each and everything surprisingly straightforward. so a great way, considering the fact that I paid for the subscription of annual risk-free practices with SNM I easily have yet to work out a undesirable rat crawling into my gadget. i've got used advert-conscious and Spybot: seek & wreck (the two loose) interior the previous yet those ought to shrink to rubble your residing house windows registry interior the lengthy run. decide on the two Avast or AVG-loose... they're nicely worth your marbles, dude!

LOl ok do it this way.

Download AVG from here : http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

and Save it. Remove your Norton ( have fun with that!) and take everything offline. Then go to AVG and run! Set daily updates and your scan to run after 6 p.m. as the updates are all done during the course of the day (I pay for my AVG andhave spotted this!) You will probably find your machine runs a little quicker too as Norton is incredibly greedy!

You must completely uninstall Norton before you install any other anti-virus app, even if Norton has expired! Major conflicts may occur otherwise.

However, Norton can be a real pain-in-the-keister to uninstall totally. You may need to Download and run the Norton Removal Tool from the Norton / Symantec website.

However, AVG Anti-Virus is crap!

Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

etc. etc. etc, ad nauseam, AVG fares poorly.

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.

And as some others have mentioned, there are much better free anti-virus alternatives such as Avria Anti-Vir:
http://www.free-av.com/
and Avast:

Personally, I have Avast on one computer and Avria on the other. Havn't had any malware in years.

Good luck.

Windows firewalls and defender is good enough, a virus is a program that's out of date and doesn't work properly or too big or not compatible for you system, always check all your programs for updates.Norton and avg you can stick em.
