It's not harmful. I enjoyed sharing the feeling of the baby kicking with my husband or family, but not with strangers. People lose their sense of boundaries around pregnant women.

It is safe for the baby should people touch the mother's belly. BUT it may not be safe for the person doing the touching. If you touch the mother uninvited you may get slapped and called a few choice words. Best to keep your hands to yourself unless asked or invited otherwise.

It depends on the person. Strangers touching me when I was pregnant was my least favorite part of being pregnant. I think people forget about personal space when they see a pregnant woman and just assume that the soon-to-be mom won't mind. I think it's best to ask if you can touch someone's body and each woman can make her own decision about who they allow to have that privilege.
