My male beta fish only blows bubbles that pop. He may be older since he has long fins and not interested in mating. I've put the femle is a seperate place in his tank so he can see her and stuff. Why won't he form a bubble nest?

Some bettas don't form a bubblenest until the female is actually with him
Also, you need to condition them for at least 2 weeks, before actually atempting to mate them with havy protein food
Here is an article for you to read up on

Hope that helps
Good luck

They will only build a bubble nest when they are very content(good water conditions, good food) I had a male a few years ago that was constantly building bubble nests, but the one I have now rarely does.

You need to put floating plants so the bubbles will hold together and wont pop.(maybe he will took interest)
