its the thought process of almost any teenager from the past 50 years:
'im invincible. nothing can stop me.'
every teenager thinks like this...even me. teens just have to be smart enough to put themselves in situations that wont make the risks available. they have to put themselves in groups of people that they can trust, or in situations where it will be easy for them to turn these things down. i would have never had sex if i hadnt been alone with my boyfriend in his room. i would have never taken my first sip of alcohol if i hadnt gone over to my friends house and snuck over to houston's.
and yes, part of it is the lazy parents. they arent monitoring their kids enough. they think that their teen is smart enough to not do these things, but even the smartest of teens are going to take part in harmful activities if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
and these substances and birth control are becoming easier for teens to get ahold of on their own. i know of 5 crack houses where weed can be purchased, and they have never been busted (never been there though).

drugs and alcohol are not directly the kids fault... they have a lot of pressure from school friends to do this stuff so they could go in the next day and brag about it.
the kids think that if they get drunk or do things they see adults do on television, they will be seen like that particular person and will hopefully become popular.
the sex issue is not an all over bad idea...
kids need to express themselves and PROTECTED sex is a great way to relieve stress... i agree if kids are having unprotected sex that they are not using their common sence but i find nothing wring with having a relationship with a person that becomes sexual even at the young age of 15. as long as they are responsible

I was in school 22 years ago. Wow, that was a long time ago! Anyway the kids did all that and more. It has nothing to do with "Kids today". I'm so sick of hearing that term!
This has been going on forever. Didn't start just a week ago or something.

I agree completely but all I can do is watch and think how stupid they are for giving into their hormones. I just try to ignore all the stupidity and move on with my life.
I don't blame the parents though, my dad is a former alcoholic and I never let it affect how I live my life

I use my mind, I don't do any of that stuff...
They just want to look cool or whatever. They won't look so cool when they have some STD and a screaming child at the age of 16.

It gets on my nerves too, they probably don't have rolemodel parents, or no one pays attenion to them at home or school, I try to influence my friends to do the right thing but some still don't listen.

takes time to build up common sense from seeing all the harm that can do
Hence teengers lacking in common sense as lacking in experience
hence needing parents and its learning all that that teaches you common sense
