I would suggest writing about the impact of technology on American History. Advances in manufacturing, medicine, transportation and communications all correspond to historical events. Think how much wars have been affected by one side having a small advantage in technology. Think how elections have focused upon the effects of railroads being built, importing goods that not all countries were capable of producing and information made possible by the telegraph, telephone, or Internet. In this century we talk a lot about health care, privacy issues, and immigration; these are issues that would be meaningless without the technological progress of recent years.
