Is it because the teachers themselves are ignorant? Is it because the cirriculum advisors are paid off by the financial institutions to keep people ignorant? Which is more important algebra or finance?

Of course algebra is more important! How can you understand, say, compounded interest, if you don't understand the underlying math? The problem is that many people are incapable of doing math required in finance...

well, I think it's becasue while they were in school a majority of students had their parents financially supporting them so they have no idea how to juggle finances. It''s not the schools responsibility to teach these people how to manage their money.
