I just got a Beta fish three days ago, and from what I've seen, he isn't really eating. Right now, I'm feeding him the tropical fish, Beta food that the fish guy suggested. Is it just because he's getting used to the change or should i change his food to something else?

The food I'm giving him isn't pellets. They're little fish flakes.

It takes time for any fish to get used to his new environment, which can take up to 10 days in some cases
Just try feeding him every day, and if he hasn't eaten anything after 10 min, just take out the food or it will pollute your water

I would also recommend getting the pellets and maybe even frozen bloodworms for him, but never feed just bloodworms, or you will get him constipated really fast

Hope that helps
good luck

It does take a while for these fish to get used to their new home. If I were you I would go about two more days trying to feed him these flakes, if he doesn't eat them, then return the flakes. This isn't uncommon and there is absolutely nothing wrong with your fish. When you return them get some freeze-dried bloodworms, don't even bother with pellets. Bettas are commonly picky little guys. He or she WILL love bloodworms, he has to! This is a food that they eat in the wild. These are expensive, but a lot of fish stores will take back food, so if you take back the food, then you won't need to pay too much extra out of pocket. Good luck with your fish.

I would reccomend switching to a small betta pellet and also as an addition to the pellets some blood worms (for an occasional treat). The more protien that a betta recieves through it's diet the more active and colorful it will be.

Once you get the pellets your betta will only need 1-2 pellets daily. However, your betta can go weeks without any food source at all--so remember that and don't over feed. It's better to under feed than to over feed.

Good luck! If you ever have any other pet questions--please don't hesitate to ask!

I wouldn't worry about it yet. You can try a new food, but he might just be getting used to his new surroundings. When bettas are kept at pet stores in those tiny containers with no exercise and no heater, their metabolism can slow way down. It can take a few days to get them eating regularly once placed in a suitable tank. I went through this with my betta. He'll eat when he's hungry. Just be sure you scoop out uneaten food to keep the water clean.
