4.0 liter V6 automatic. It has 87,000 miles on it. The "check engine" light came on just a couple days ago. The engine is making a rattling noise . . . which is worse when it's in gear. It's not leaking oil . . . and I just had the oil changed last week. Oil pressure is fine and temperature is fine. Sounds like rod knock. Any ideas ???

They may have put very light oil in. Or don't know what they put in. The test is: pull a plug wire and put it back. Do that to all six. If you pull one and the knock stops, it's a rod bearing. If it's just barely ticking, try a 10w40 oil. If it goes tick, tick put a two foot screwdriver on the cam cover and the other end behind your ear like a stethescope. Move it up and down along the cover. If you hear it, it might be a rocker.
