The anesthesiologist had no right not giving you the epidural because of your husbands say so. That was your choice! I would definitely speak to your Dr about that! Talk to the hospital administration office about this. It should not have happened,

i don't think it would be overboard to sue in this case, at least to cover medical bills. definitely file an official complaint against the anesthesiologist and the hospital. unless you were incapacitated and your husband has the power of attorney, he had no right to overrule your decision. he was probably worried about the risks of the epidural - which the anesthesiologist may have overemphasized - but he still has no right to overrule your request for medical attention since you were the one in labor. i'm sure if he was trying to push out a baby, he would be screaming for an epidural. what an a ss!

I on no account heard of a ladies who wanted her husband permission to get ger tube tied. Maybe your buddy wanted her husband permission for herself. You are the sufferer and you make a decision should you desire an epidural, who remains within the room with you.... Your husband must admire your selection, you're the person who will think the ache.

You should speak to the hospital's lawyer. I know it's going overboard but you don't have to sue, just bring up that the hospital went against your, the patient's wishes, and went with someone who had no legal right to make your medical decisions.
You may be able to get a discount on your bill if nothing else. Hospitals will gladly knock down a bill rather than have a lawsuit threatened!
All apparent greed aside, the hospital was wrong to disobey you, especially if he does not have power of attorney and you do not have him listed as a desicion maker in your living will or directive.

Tell your husband when he wants his next child to get his @#$ up on that hospital bed if he thinks its so darn easy. He has no right to say what you can and can't have. He isnt the one in agony. I bet he would be begging for an epidural if he had to push a basketball out his rear end.

NOOOOO. Your body, your decision. When your husband can carry a baby then he can make the decision if he wants to go through at least 6 hours of excruciating pain, 2-3 min apart. Is that hospital still in the middle ages? You could have gotten better service from a mid-wife.

Ok, WHAT? If this is true, than it is horrible abuse. A man that does this is trying to control his wife in the worst possible way--when she is more vulnerable than she'll ever be. Furthermore, unless you live outside the U.S., a doctor cannot deny you pain relief based on your husbands instructions. Even if you HAD planned, a natural birth many women change their mind when the contractions get bad. This sounds like a bunch of crap.

They can not do that, and I would be calling a lawyer, and the hospitals patient relations department. The anesthesiologist had no right to refuse you the epidural.
And your husband sounds like a real jerk.

I am sorry but I have never heard this before....To use an epidural or not is entirely up to you...and he has no say....God forbid if he should have to end up having surgery one day...and you tell the doctor that he can't have any pain medication....Think the doctor will refuse him medication because you said "no"...I DON'T THINK SO....

No, he cannot decide for you unless you are in a coma or something to where you could not be asked yourself. The hospital was wrong to refuse your medication, and your husband should be smacked for thinking he can make that decision for you. Just tell him he gets to give birth to the next one if that's the way he wants to be.
