after cranking truck runs fine....have changed fuel pump/filter and getting fuel to injector but injector will not spray while trying to crank..sometimes injector will make a little grunting sound an spray an initial burst when key is switched on..and truck will crank but other times it will not ....some one mentioned it may be a hall effect switch in distributor. could it be any thing else?

I'd check the starter switch first. It could have a good run contact and a bad start contact.

The fuel pump relay could be failing. The relay can work intermittently due to faulty connections internally.
The vehicle has a bypass circuit through the oil pressure switch that will allow it to start after extended cranking (10-15 seconds) after the oil pressure reaches about 8-10 psi. Sometimes that fools people into thinking the relay is still good.
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) grounds the fuel pump relay to complete the circuit and close the relay contacts. It should do that when the key is turned to the run position for 2 seconds to prime the fuel system depending on the type of fuel injection system. After the engine starts the oil pressure switch provides the circuit.

i have an 84 Fiero with the 2.5 liter with the same problem, which sounds like what you have. I replaced the entire fuel injector assembly (the entire assembly on top of the intake) and fixed the problem. Also, if you can buy one, get a noid light. They plug in on the end of the injector wiring, and during cranking will flash if it is getting electricity to work. Hope this helped some

Sounds a lot more like a sticky fuel relay switch to me. Other than that it could be the fuel pressure regulator. Definately not the distributor.

it could be your ign switch or computer,or the fuel pump relay switch.its definitely an electrical problem, you will have to do some testing.
