Some anti-depressants increase in strength. Ask your psychiatrist about that, or see if your pharmacist can tell you. They sometimes know more than the doctors. Although, Lithium is used for bi-polars, it is a trace mineral and can can build up to toxic levels, therefore the psychiatrist monitors through blood tests.

its not that they lose there affect after a while
its that you health needs may have changed
antidepressants done cure depression they help make it easier to deal with
sometimes the doctor may need to change the meds to see what will work better for you
each med may need to be taken for as much as six months to see how well they are working

Yes..it does. Increasing the dosage will bring harsh health problems and decreasing the dosage will make you so much more depressed than when you began it.

i used wellbutrin for a few months several years ago, and at the end, they began to have a totally opposite effect. they really wacked me out and i began to have very bad delusional thoughts. needless to say, i stopped taking them!! it was a very bad time.

Yes sometimes they do, if you go to your doctor that prescribed them and talk to him/her about this they will either up your dose are change your current medicine to a different one.

my doctor says no, but i believe they do. i was on cymbalta for about two years, and it worked really well for about a year and i had to double my dosage... after about nine months i had to double it again... finally i just said screw it and switched to prozac... so far it's working well.

You probably just become more dependant on them i wouldn't use them at all
