Ive used AVG but with varying results.

Now I use Norton. Its good and thorough, but does slow my system down somewhat.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/... On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Hello Lucky Luke,

You are likely to get several suggestions about free security software, but here are my 2 suggestions.

A free anti virus program is Grisoft's AVG at:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/

Once installed all you need do is decide your settings and thats about it. It checks for updates daily automatically.

I have used the free version for several years and it has never let me down yet.

Grisoft also have other free programs to help protect your PC.

I always use a free mail checker program too. Its called Mailwasher and it will check your mail on-line and allow you to read it before you download it to your PC. Unfortunately the free version only allows you to use one email address, but it has a 'Bounce' option to allow you to delete or bounce any suspect emails you see.

It can also warn you if an email contains a virus before you download it which allows you to delete it or bounce it back before it even reaches your PC.

To get this program go to:

http://www.mailwasher.net/home

Hope these programs are of help to you.
