Check out the link below for a map of the trams in vegas. I would stay at a hotel near the middle of the strip, but that has a tram stop near by. After the first day, you will not be wanting to do a lot of walking.

Casears, Paris, Venetian, Bellagio
We like Monte Carlo for the price, although it is on the south side of the strip, but it's not too bad and worth a little walking for the money!

Caesars, MGM Grand, Luxor, New York, New York, Paris, Harrah's. I like the Wynn, but it's too far from everything else.
