Why not create a single state, with majority rule having the last say? It could have been arranged for Jews to immigrate to Palestine legally, but prevent them from displacing Arabs who had been living there for centuries.

J C H, you know that the Jews got kicked out in like 400 AD, right? Some remained, but they were a vast minority until the Zionist movement started promoting illegal immigraton from Europe in the late 19th century.

While Israel is a focal point, the middle east would have been a flashpoint no matter what.

The land of "Israel" would desire to be cut up in 0.5. The northern 0.5 would be Palestine and the southern 0.5 Israel. in the midsection occupying Jerusalem may be the recent U.N. HQ with a hall that divides those lands from the Mediterranean to the pink Sea. This hall would be a international history section open and obtainable for all and sundry to peacefully flow to and revere. Stationed there would desire to be 3 hundred,000 guy speedy reaction rigidity able to turning in a intense smack right down to all people in the area that acts out of line. This answer creates peace in the area and gets the U.N. out of ny .

Israel has been a nation for over 3 thousand years. The modern nation-state came to be after WWI when Israel, Jordan and Egypt signed a treaty. The treaty was supposed to quell violence and provide homes for all, but the Palestine National Authority rejected the treaty while Israel declared it's Independence.

The reason Palestine is "displaced" is because THEY chose to be. Palestine has a home they don't want, and they want Jerusalem but can't have it. Palestinians are welcome in Israel but they refuse to cohabit with Jews.

What Palestine ans really want is to take Israel by force and eradicate the Jews. Hence the constant in-fighting.

Who's mistake did you think it was?

In reading the responses from the conservative right wing element that participates here, it is obvious to me that God gave the land to Israel,,,that God has a special place for the Jews of Israel and will protect them...that they have a right to do what ever it takes to dominate and succeed in a hostile neighborhood....kill or be killed...God said it was right and just and they have been there for 4000 years and so on and so on...into an area of thinking that is so muddy and weird that I can not even understand it.

Really...I wish ideologically orientated people would open their eyes to the truth.

The United States is the source of Israels power...Does that then mean the United States is GOD? I bet some of you would tend to agree with that statement...but I think it is the other way around...we are the devil...Satan with money and guns and planes dropping death from 20,000 feet above...with precision and cameras and gee...is this not the best show on TV!

Easy - There is no such thing as a Palestinian people...Period.

As a Jews this is easy to explain, so let's review.

Let's go back to the beginning of Islam and complete and total Arab rule.

1.) Under the Prophet Muhammad - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

2.) Under the 4 Righteous Caliphs - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

3.) Under the Umayyad dynasty - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

4.) Under the Abbasid dynasty - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

5.) Under the Fatimid dynasty - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

6.) Under the Ottoman dynasty (400 years) - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

7.) Arabs reject British/UN offer for Palestinian State for the so-called Palestinian people- instead invade the new State of Israel. Results: Combined Arab armies obliterated.

8.) From 1948 until 1967 - West Bank/Sumeria was in Jordanian Arab hands - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

9.) From 1948 until 1967 - Gaza/Gush Katif was under Egyptian Arabs hands - No mention of Palestinian people or Palestinian state.

Now...1967 - Israel completely destroys combined Arab armies in the 6 day War.

Land falls into Jewish hands.

1967 until the Present - Miraculous birth of Palestinian people and call for Palestinian state by the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization.)

And so begin the current war of attrition between the Arabs and Jews right up until this very day.

Now, we are talking about Israel with a combined population of around 4 million people. And the Arabs want to cry foul and say that its illegal. Fine, so be it.

But lets be fair and honest for a moment...

History will record that the Arabs came from the Arabian Pennisula, correct?

So how do you or they account for the...

- Arab Republic of Egypt - 78 million
- Arab Republic of Libya - 6 million
- Arab Republic of Tunisia - 10 million
- Arab Republic of Algeria - 33 million
- Arab Republic of the Sudan - 40 million
- Arab Kingdom of Morrocco - 34 million
- Arab Republic of Maurantania - 3 million
- Arab Republic of Western Sahara ( Not offically acknowledged by the UN) - 341, 000

Now your talking about Israel with a combined population of 7 million...when these countries have over a combined population of 204 MILLION people?!?!?!

That's a difference of 197 million people.

So go explain your mute point not only to the Berbers, Southern Sudanese but all the other native African population(s).

------

With that said...I'm quite curious how often does the President of the United States of the current US Federal Goverment goes to the rightful Indigenous (Native) American population and ask them, "Can we have immgriation here legally, Do you mind if we stink you in your own refugee camps here (reservations) and displace you since you have been here for centuries."

In your mind wouldnt that make the United States is a illegal occupied goverment and by proxy make you an illegal immigrate?

I think "mistake" is a strong word, but in retrospect it might have been better to approach it differently.

Unfortunately, over half a century later, whether you think it is a mistake or not, the state of Israel is there. Many Israelis know of no other home, just as many Palestineans in the same area think the same thing. Hopefully, the people of the region can find a way to a solution.

It's funny, because actually a very large number of Jews DID immigrate to Palestine legally prior to Israel's formation. It's not like they bussed them in when the UN resolution passed, most were already their, they just (somewhat) officially had control over the land when the state was formed. It got violent shortly thereafter (The 6 Day War) and that's when Israel needed to create a buffer and move Arabs out of the region, to prevent further violence. To this day, Israel has not returned that buffer territory.

I do believe it was a mistake, it was not their land, it was not purchased nor bartered for, it was simply taken by a UN resolution against the inhabitants of the region.
