If it hurts, it's probably not in right. maybe you used one that is for a larger flow. Try a smaller one. You should barely feel it when it is in the correct position.

It won't damage you if not inserted properly other then causing a bit of unnecessary rubbing which could cause discomfort. If inserted properly you should not feel it at all.
Chances are by the time you got it in you had tensed up a bit which would explain why you could not insert it further. That can happen even after years and years of having your period but is very common when it is within your first few tries.
I would suggest pulling this one out. Depending on how far you were able to get it in it may not absorb properly and I imagine it is not very comfortable. Perhaps put a pad on and relax and try again in a bit. Just take a few deep breaths, think of something else and I bet you will have more success with the next try.

Ok you aint inserted it correctly to begin with.Read the insertion instructions slowly...(1) Relax, and take your time..it will not hurt one bit if you totally relax, if you tense up you will not not able to insert it all the way up as the muscles will tighten making it painful, find an insertion position that is both comfortable and will help you to relax, either crouching slightly, standing up legs apart, sitting on the loo legs apart, or with one leg up on the loo seat so that you can keep your balance and feel what you are doing (2) Read insertion instructions again to ensure its going ok, and maybe try some kind of lubricant to help it glide in easily if you think its gonna be stubborn (3) If it wont go all the way up (it wont fall out so dont worry your muscles will hold it in )....or you can still feel it take it out and try with another, dont try to push it in further, always try with a fresh one (3) Keep practicing until you can do it without thinking (4) Try applicator rather than digital, much easier for first time users and use the lowest absorbancy possible to learn with until you have it right...like MINI...which are the smallest and easiest to use....When you have it right you will know coz you wont know you are wearing one.In the end you will find them so easy to use you can do it blindfolded.!Using tampons for the first time until you get used to them is always a challenge.Dont worry be brave, you will get the hang of it in no time.

This takes practise and patience. You will feel it for the first few times but you'll get used to it. Trying to insert a tampon to many times will dry you out and make you sore so when my daughter incurred these problems to begin with my advice was use a little petroleum cream like Vaseline around your Virgina opening which will help with insertion another key is to relax. Also are you using the right ones IE my teenager use the mini ones as she eventually found through trial and error that these suited her best. Best of luck Hun.

Pull it out gently.
Next time you insert one, put a little bit of KY jelly (water-based lubricant) on the outside. Slip it in as far as you can, and then remove the applicator. If you can feel it, it's not in right. You cannot fix a tampon. Once inserted you can't push it in further. So pull it out, slowly, gently, and try again.
Good luck, sweetie,
TX Mom
It won't damage your female system if it's in wrong, but it will be uncomfortable.

if your tampon is hurting it might be because your flow isn't heavy enough, and if you're too dry it often causes a stinging/burning sensation - if that's the case then i suggest taking it out and using sanitary towels instead, and tampons only for the heaviest days of your period. Have you tried using applicator tampons? They're much easier for beginners.
Good luck peacex

I would take it out and try again. You shouldn't be able to feel the tampon and it shouldn't hurt. Like the person before me said, make sure you're relaxed when you put it in. Try standing with one foot on the toilet seat when you put a new one in and see if that helps.

You should not feel the tampon when it's in nor should it hurt. Take it out and put in a new one. It won't damage you but it will annoy you!

It won't do any damage just be uncomfortable...It sounds as if your period is not heavy enough yet otherwise you could slide it up easily. Just pull it out and try again, push it towards your spine in that direction, and put it up as far as you can. Remember, it can't 'get lost' lol practise. good luck!
