My wife and I used Avent also and had a massive headache because of the leaking. We contacted the co. and they said that we were tightening the lids too much. Apparently they are designed to "breathe" to reduce the amount of air the baby takes in while feeding. We still use them. I also bought a couple of Soothie brand bottles at Wal-Mart because they are the same nipples as his pacifier from the hospital. He has no preference as long as he's being fed! Good luck and congrats!

I know what you mean about the breastfeeding. I can make milk, but its not enough to feed a baby. So I still nurse, but I have to suppliment with formula. It works for us.
I love the avent, but the nipples can wear out over time. That may be the cause of the leaking.
Drop ins are a pain, its hard to mix the powdered formula, hard to warm up the bottles, and I never liked having yet another thing to throw away and generate more trash.
I never used the vent air bottles. Can't help ya there.

I have the Playtex Drop Ins for my son and love those! Buying the liners can be costly over time, but they're great at reducing gas and they're the only bottles that do well with Latex nipples, which is my son's preference after being bf. They only leak if the liners aren't on correctly, and appear to leak a bit more if you use the original liners, which don't have the solid plastic ring that makes it pre-molded. I've used Dr. Brown's and they were a hassle. Avent was no good. Gerber was no good. Evenflo was no good. But mostly because my son only loves latex nipples. If you keep the receipt, you can return the bottles if your baby doesn't like them.

We use the vent air bottles and they are my favorite. The disk goes in the bottom screw on part and we just add the water and formula and shake and go on. They work VERY well. If you wanted to heat premixed formula you would have to heat it in warm water...not the microwave (but Im sure you know that by now)
We also tried the drop ins and I hated them. I know alot of people who use them, but they were more hassle for us than they were worth. Plus to me that is alot of waste as well. Good luck and look around for coupons for the Playtex bottles, you can usually find some.

There is nothing wrong with not breast feeding. I had three kids and none were breast fed. As for your new bottles, my grandson used the Playtex Ventair bottles. They worked just fine. You can warm the formula in a pan on the stove and then pour it into the bottles.
Don't let anyone razz you about not breast feeding. It is a personal choice.

Well, my daughter used to spit up a lot as a baby, so a concerned grandma type friend suggested Dr. Brown's bottles which have a whole bunch of parts and supposedly reduce gas and spitups. But, the only thing I observed is that she had less spit ups as she got bigger. I don't think any of the fancy bottles really help all that much, although new moms are such suckers for gadgets it's easy to convince us to try them. I ended up happily using plain old gerber bottles that come in 3 packs...simple and cheap!

Gerbers NUK hands down. Imitates REAL nipple, more control and it doesnt pour into babies mouth.
Tried Avent too, they are bad.

I always used disposable bottles. Was easier to clean nipples and the bottles were always sterile.
