The reason I need sound is I just plug in my headphones to the back.

your hard drive has nothing at all to do with the sound. unless you did a clean install of your operating system, you should have sound already. if you did a clean install, you may likely have to re-install the audio drivers. if you are using on-board sound, you will have to make sure it is enabled in the BIOS settings...

check on those things and you should be good for sound. unless you need a new sound card too...

Headphones work just like speakers. Plug them into your audio port(s) and see if they work.

If not, make sure you install all your motherboard drivers First. Then, re-post with all the gory details AND error messages.

go to control panel then audio and sounds and turn it on from there.
