legal immigrant from Haiti. I went through the entire long process to come here. Now that I'm a permanent resident I live here, work and pay my taxes. How about the Americans that work for cash and are on welfare? They lie to the government, and are living on my tax money that i work HARD to pay. Don't you think that's also criminal? I have lived here for couple years, I had some hard times, but it never cross my mind to go on welfare, and this valid for all my family members who have 4-5 kids. We are too proud to go on welfare. Some of us prefer to work 3 jobs. I'm sick and tired of others stealing from the government and using my tax money illegally. Your opinion?

Welfare is only intended to be a safety net. A soft place to land for a short span until you are able to find another job or two to take care of your yourself.
I do find it a little disgusting that some choose welfare as their sole source of income for a life time. Continue to bring children into poverty and do nothing to create a better life for themselves. This all the while some go out and work several jobs, for sometimes not the best money to provide for themselves or their dependents.
I do agree that the chronic welfare recipients is a massive drain on the system. Why any able bodied person is not trying to earn their keep is beyond me. I don't hate that my tax dollars go towards welfare. As in the worst case scenario, I like that there is a safe place to land for a couple months until I can secure another job, however it pains me greatly that able bodied people choose to collect welfare for a lifetime.

I agree with you. I live in Massachusetts and I've seen a lot of welfare people. The welfare system is not set up right. Some people really do need assistance but the right has been instrumental in making sure that people do not receive the right kind of assistance. It's a game that we taxpayers pay for foolishly because we have no other option (not true, we can protest, write letters, call, etc.). Some people collect welfare because they make more money on welfare then they do by working for it. The money they would make working does not meet their living needs. Maybe they have trouble holding a job? Maybe they lack the skills? Maybe they lack the discipline? I support a complete overhaul of the current welfare system. Illegals should receive no support at all. Corporations (businesses) that hire them should have to pay huge fines that go to the illegals. It should be extremely expensive for a business to use illegals.

Let me ask you a question little ms. know-it-all: If you went to another country without a passport or documentation that you were legally there, do you think for one second that they would let you stay?????????????? They would deport your happy little butt back when you got off the plane. Now, why are Americans so horrible that we are sending people back, because they are here and breaking the law You need to wake up. The reason we do not want the ILLEGAL ALIENS here is because they take precious money out of the system that could be used for the people who are legally here, immigrant or not. If the Illegals are not criminals then they wouldn't be here, because HELLO "ILLEGAL" is "ILLEGAL" you just don't get it. The Illegal immigrants are already breaking the law and when the jump the border and come to this country without any of the proper paperwork they are committing a crime and all us tax payers (I assume that you work and pay taxes) have to support them until they find work, and if they have children born in America while they are here, we have to support them too. Let the Mexican Government take care of the Mexican Citizens for once, and leave us alone.

Don't worry about the real Americans working for cash their families have been here since the 1600's and deserve to take some of the money back! Be lucky your here-are you happy here? My opinion is illegal is illegal. Also people that commit fraud to recieve welfare are criminals. The difference is the legal citizen who gets caught have to face the consequences and pay for it. The illegals get caught and they dont. They either run or scream for their rights(which they have none). They get deported and never pay for what they did. BTW you did come across as a Smart Lady til you started calling names and insulting the answers.

People that cheat the government out of tax dollars belong in jail. That said you must admit that a nation which ignores its own borders and laws for 20 million people makes it difficult to respect its laws on taxes - for instance.

yea thats true,but i know a few people who get paid 'under the table' and they don't collect welfare. if they did i wouldn't care because they have the legal right to live here,my problem is that 'WE' care too much a bout different countries and their people and not enough about our own.
