Babies get sick, breastfeeding just gives them more immunity. Keep an eye on him, watch for fever, and runny nose that is yellow or green in color. If it doesn't bother him, and no green.yeloow dischardge, it will probably resolve itself. If he seems to get worse, take him to the peditrician.

I breast feed my baby for 15 months. And they still get sick just not as bad. I would watch the cough and if it last more then about 5 days I would take him to the DR. Be glad the baby does not have a stuffy/runny nose that makes it so hard for them to feed. If it gets that way I would put Vicks on my breast above were her nose is and maybe even a dot on her nose. Don't use too much it will bother her eyes. and a vaborizor

It iis normal for you baby to get sick, and at this time of year, for it to develop a cough. DON'T STOP Breastfeeding, no matter who tells you to. It's the best thing for a sick baby.
Breastmilk gives the baby more immunities, and helps them fight off viruses, but yes, even breastfed babies will get sick.
Be sure to breastfeed more often to keep your baby hydrated. Check rectally for a fever, and if its over 100 call your dr. Do you hear congestion in the chest?
Keep a close eye on the baby, and watch for other symptoms.
Good luck!

Just because you breastfeed doesn't mean your baby will NEVER get sick, breastfeeding will help boost their immune system so they get sick LESS often. I am breastfeeding my 4 month old daughter and she has a slight cold, her only symptom is a runny nose, so I suction it out often. I on the other hand have a full blown cold, it sucks! Anyways, if you are concerned, you should call the pediatrician. If your son doesn't seem too bothered by the cough & runny nose then I wouldn't worry about it, but monitor him to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated or get a fever. Good luck :)

Oh, that's not true. My three month old has a cold right now, and she's breastfed. They just are sick a shorter period of time, and tend to be less sick.
If all he's doing is coughing, though, he might not be sick . . . maybe he's allergic to something in the house. Wait a couple days, and if he's still coughing, bring him to the doctor. OR, if you hear any congestion in the chest when he breathes, bring him to the doctor right now.

What kind of cough?
Does it have phlegm?
Does he have a fever?
If it's a dry cough, listen to his lung (with your ear) and see if you hear a crackly noise. If you don't, give him a couple of days and if he's still coughing, take him to the dr. If you do hear the crackle, take him now. It could be asthma.
If it's a gooey cough, (esp if he has a fever), call the dr. and ask how he wants you to manage it. Can he take a little robitussin? What about baby tylenol? Should you bring him in?
Babies don't get sick as much because they are using your immunity to stay well. You obviously aren't immune to this virus, so you can't protect him. It could be asthma--try as it may, your immune system can't help him with asthma.
You love that little one all you can. At 2 years old, my son started wiping off my kisses. So you got to love them while they're babies!

Babies get sick with and without breastfeeding. They are less likely to get sick, but really it all depends on their immune system. At his age it is quite common for him to get the sniffles ( it actually helps build his immune system up.) Contact your pediatrician and make an appointment. When they are little like that it is a good idea to take them to the doctor when they have the sniffles. As he gets older you will be able to treat it from home. Make the appointment as soon as you can. Until then continue to breastfeed, keep his face clean, and make sure he is getting plenty to drink to keep him from being dehydrated.

They still get sick but it's just not as bad as it could possibly be. Just continue to breastfeed. My daughter was sick when she was 4 months old and I continued to breastfeed and she healed quickly. I suggest getting a humidifier for the runny nose to help clear things up.

Babies get sick, that is natural. Talk with a senior person who has had few kids of her own. If it persists 24 hours, take it to the doctor.
