I used to be a waitress, TRUST me, do not send your food back, you will regret it!

I will be honest...I have worked in restaurants
You are kinda right about what CAN happen with food sent back

Okay if the order is wrong, send it back
Like if you ordered chicken, fries and carrots and they bring you shrimp, onion rings and peas...send it back
It is a clear mistake
NO Harm will come to your food

However... What makes the cooks mad are things like

*You order a steak medium well and they feel they cooked it that way, if you wish it cooked a tad more send it back ONCE
But not over and over
Not this put it back on for 90 secs
Then send it back for another 60 secs
Then one more time for 30 secs
If you send the same item back over and over
We would NOT spit on it but we would scrap the grill of all the gunk and goop and wipe it on your steak or burger
Or maybe just somehow a nice shake of pepper gets on it

If you order a steak well done and it comes rare send it back
But not for re-heats and just for another 45 secs on the grill

I only have ONE time ... we were at I-hop and I ordered the stuffed french toast and it was like disgusting and frozen in the middle and stale... there was no way I could eat it. They were really nice about it though, AND we got it for free.

Typically, though, I'm with you - I'm too afraid someone will spit in it or put a booger in it or something.

I used to be the cook at a steak house. This one guy sent his steak back twice saying that it wasn't well done enough for him. I tossed it on the broiler and left it there until it was almost charcoal, and sent it back out. The guy came back into the kitchen to thank me for the best steak he'd ever had. I was very shocked by that.

well maybe if the cook did it right the first time it wouldnt have to be sent back.believe me i have been to places where the food was absolutly horrid and the chicken wasnt cooked throughly, one place was so bad after the first bite i got up and walked out and never returned.

I've never done that before because I've never have too. Now, if I found a dead rat or something in my food, I'd storm right on out of that restaurant.

I have. I ordered a medium rare steak and they brought me a burnt one, I sent it back.......then went for the salad bar, where I knew my food would be safe from revenge.

I try not to for that reason, but I have a daughter who will not eat steak cooked over medium rare, and they always cook it medium!
