Okay he is a great kid and never asks for much. So I really want to get him what he wants for christmas this year but I don't know how to pick one out, how to figure the right size, or anything at all about snowboarding. So please help a totally clueless mother make her son happy with a little helpfull info.

A general rule is between the chin and nose, but that is just a general rule if he is height / weight proportionate. More correctly, it depends on his weight and what kind of riding he is going to do.

Most manufacturers list weight ranges for each size within a particular model so check those when shopping for a new board. Since he is a beginner and still growing, I would suggest getting a board with more flex but maybe a little longer so that he can grow into it.

Try this great snowboard size calculator on the web that also gives recommendations:

My 12 year old got a 135cm two years ago and is still riding it. I would suggest a kid version Ride or K2 board - they really hold up to abuse during learning to ride. Also, get a little better binding - look for one with metal buckels instead of just plastic. Those cheap bindings just fall apart - I see it every year.

Both of my kids snowboard - and they love it. When they decided they wanted to learn, I learned too (when I was 35) and we ride together.

Good Luck
