I'm curious what feminists think because she has achieved what feminists think women should achieve, but her politics are diametrically opposed to that of feminism. Do you oppose her because of her politics, or do you think she is a champion of women everywhere?

smoofus70: So is feminism entirely political? I thought it was about improving womens' lives. Is that not the case?

ProfessorC: She recieved her Master's degree from Radcliffe (an all-girls school for hundreds of years). She earned her JD from Washington University, which awarded its first JD to a woman 125 years ago (long before feminism). Why do you think feminism should be attributed to her advanced degrees when all of the Universities she attended issued degrees to women long before the advent of feminism as we know it?

Why should I support a woman who's politics are completely opposite of mine? Just because she's a woman? Do you support men who have completely different views from yours?

Phyllis flew all over the country telling other women to stay home in the kitchen. #2 she told women they would be drafted and forced to use men's toilets if they passed the equal rights amendment. #3 She did everything she could to cut off funding to single mothers trying to raise children. (the mothers that need the most help), were 2nd class citizens to her. so Phyllis is #1 a hypocrite #2 a liar #3 a cruel beetch Any questions

I admire the fact that she has been so successful, but I don't admire the fact that she had to be a hypocrite to get it. You'd think she'd be happily confined to her kitchen instead of traveling around the country to gain support for her political agenda. Since the majority of women supported the ERA before it was defeated (and even after), I only think she was a champion for the women of the Eagle Forum.
Answerers might be interested to know that her recent whining against the ERA included mention of how it would bring about same-sex marriage and denying Social Security benefits to housewives and widows. Same-sex marriage, maybe, which would be good for her son. But the rest is just bull.

#1 wikipedia is not reliable resource.
#2 If not for feminism she would be back in the kitchen where she wants the rest of women to be. Why doesn't she talk about the fact that she would not have gotten into grad school if not for other women demanding equality. She is a hypocrite.
Why did Radcliffe exist? because women weren't allowed into the hallowed halls of Harvard.
No one is saying some places didn't offer degrees BUT they had a quota of 1-2 per class. Women had to have better grades and scores to be admitted than men - or they had to use the legacy card. And she went to law school in 75- when women had argued for equal admission policies. We did the work she got the benefits- those she wants to deny to others.

I believe she is someone who genuinely hates being a woman. Otherwise, why else would she argue against a proposal that would erect a statue to honor military nurses? This was the one incident where I became convinced that her hatred of her own womanhood was the real reason behind her political activism.

Schlafy's daughter has said the her mother missed many important school functions that she was a part of growing up because Schlafly was always on the road giving speeches. She's the classic case of "do as I say and not as I do" where she claims to champion homemakers but she really never took on that roll herself. That spells h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e in my book.

I think if she took her own stupid advice she'd be at home in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant and making her man a sandwich--instead of telling me to quit my job and go stand barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen making my man a sandwich.
