I turned 19 this year. I've always loved dance but just never gotten into it. I'm not a natural dancer cos I was not brought up in a family that particularly likes dancing. However I'm really keen to get into it, how long do you reckon it would take to perfect a form of dance? I'm really into contemporary and hip-hop. Which do you suggest?

My boyfriend and I took up ballroom dancing in our late 20s/early 30s, lol. You're never too old to dance. (Our instructor is in her 70s!) We know a variety of steps from the waltz, fox trot, cha cha, swing, and rhumba. Right now, we're focusing more on form and rhythm than new steps. I've gotten pretty good at it; my boyfriend is struggling because he can't "hear" the music to determine what type of dance it is, when to start, etc.

Still, we have a fantastic time. It burns calories, it's fun, and we go to dances for practice. We may not look like the best dancers when we're on the floor, but we try! That's all you can do; give it a shot, learn your moves, and practice.

If you like contemporary and hip-hop, take lessons in that. It may take a while to get good at it, and you'll probably never perfect it (I don't think anyone can). We've been taking lessons since July, I think, and there is a definite improvement; we know the basic steps without thinking, and he's really good at turning me on the dance floor. Beyond that, we struggle a little, but it's a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Go for it!

I started dancing when I was 3 years old doing Tap, Jazz and Ballet. 12 years later I do tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary and exam classes. I don't think I have a specialty. In my exams this year I've gotten over 90% in Jazz, Tap & Ballet.

I wasn't born into a dancing family either. I'm the first in my whole family to even consider classes.

Contemporary, for some reason you look like a contemporary dancer

I've done dance, gymnastics, and rhythmic gymnastics, in some combination, since I was 3 and I'm 25 now. Rhythmic was my first love, but as far as dancing, lyrical is my specialty!

You never perfect your art, a good dancer knows there's always something to improve on. However, if you have the heart, youre more than half way there! And a guy who can do contemporary is hot, no matter what.

I started dancing when i was three and I know how it is for a family not to be very supportive of dance but if it is something you want that bad it will only help you strive for it more. I would say take up both contemporary and hip hop I myself love contemporary because it's so garceful but it is alwayyys good to be diverse

I started when I was 4. My favorite is probably contemporary because I love being able to really feel the music and know what there is meaning behind what the words say and to put that in my dancing.

i started dancing at the age of 6, and my speciality's ballet. i've been doing ballet all my life til i was introduced to jazz by my ballet teacher for relaxation. and BOY! was it FUN FUN FUN! try out hip hop if u like something smooth fast and cool, easy to pick up whereas jazz and ballet for improving stamina and form and usually u need more practise to get it right. tap is tiring for beginners but it can be fun because it's foot work. haha.

when you're ready to go, try out ballroom or salsa for sexaye moves and style.

hope ive helped you! and all the best!

call the dance studios on your section and be particular. Ask to talk to an instructor and enable them to be responsive to precisely what you're finding for, and person or progressed jazz classification. they could be waiting to permit you be responsive to in the event that they have some thing or the place they choose for sophistication.
