Well, did you ever see the movie "Rain Man" with Dustin Hoffman?...Not that he was portrayed as a college graduate but he certainly was able to remember anything and everything which would enable him to graduate...
It is possible to be very intelligent but lack 'common sense'...That doesn't make you retarded...For instance, a young woman could have a 4.0 GPA and yet be dating a total loser guy who's into drinking, drugs and goofing off simply because he's different that what she's used to being around... She's not stupid, but what she's DOING is playing with dynamite.
Those in your family calling you retarded are being a bit mean, but at the same time, they may be at their wits end and lack the knowledge and/or skill of communication and so out of frustration they lower themselves to calling names.

Honestly, they're just being mean.
Can a person get through college being "mentally retarded?" Well, I sometimes wonder that with the modern US school system... No, I don't think that is possible.
Can someone make it through college with no "common sense?" You bet! There are thousands of people like that!
Really, all they are doing is calling you names. Don't worry about it. The fact that they have driven you to the point of coming on here and asking this question means that they need to give you some slack and that you need to take what they say a little less seriously.

Actually retarded, absolutely not. Clinically retarded, probably not. A person with a high school degree or even GED, is very unlikely to be clinically retarded, let alone someone with an associates degree or bachelors degree. I have heard of only one case, of a person diagnosed as mentally retarded person obtaining an associates degree - and by obtaining that degree (reflecting a significant adult achievement) it is only evidence against the validity of conventional measures which deemed her retarded, to begin with. Academic learning is more than simply rote memorizing and elementary concept formation skills (which better correlates with IQ), but can often (in folks of higher intelligence) ilicit heuristic and intuitive thinking and learning, which are hallmarks of intellect in the empirical philosophy of mind.

Maybe you do lack common sense, I don't know, but if you have a degree then you're not retarded in the full sense of the word.

From my experience the ones with no common sense have more book smarts. I've worked for many doctors with no common sense.

Education has nothing to do with common sense. Some of the brightest peole I have met have been completely devoid of common sense, whilst some of the more educationally challenged ones have had oodles of it.

well I can definitely not judge if you have common sense but having a college degree doesn't mean that one has common sense and has a high IQ
