When the engine is cold on my 2002 Toyota RAV4, and I start it, it operates at a high idle speed as expected. Then after a minute or so, it switches so that it fluctuates between a high idle speed and a very low idle speed, about every 2 or 3 seconds. Up and down, up and down. If I'm driving, it will actually make the vehicle have a jerky movement. A quick jab on the gas pedal seems to make it stop.
What could it be, and what is the solution?

Sounds like a fuel issue. Hard to tell for sure Things that this could be: Dirty fuel filter, Oxygen sensor, Map sensor, Crankshaft sensor, Fuel Pump, Dirty injectors. Could be other things. Sounds like you will be spending about 2 - 3 hundred dollars for the repair. Just pray its not the fuel pump.
