You need to treat yourself once in a while, otherwise what is the point of working?

I would say don't do it *every* payday, otherwise, you'll never be able to get yourself into a better financial situation. Instead of doing that, you would be much better off to only splurge once a month (if that, even) and don't make it something too huge so you're not going deeper into the hole.

Instead, wouldn't it feel so much better to take that money you would use to buy a little something, stick it away in a 'hands off' bank account, then be able to pay off one or two extra bills a lot faster than you had anticipated? Then, you'd have even more money down the road where you could really do something nice for yourself.

Not necessarily, but there r others in the family and they expect U to fulfil certain promises to them, I think U should fulfil that if that promish is to children and elderly people. On my salary day the first thing I did was to come home and handover my salary package to my wife. My wife did the first thing to go first to post office and send a fixed amount to my widow mother living far away and another to my old grand parents. The third thing my wife did was to pay rent and school fees of children unmindful of what remains in hand. By 15th of every month nothing was left and I used to work on Sundays and do overtime to meet our balance of needs. What's more important is that U shouldn't think about curtailing ur basic needs, save on luxeries, and try to fulfil needs of elderly and children before thinking about ur own needs. I'm a civil engineering graduate and used to get good salary but my parental liabilities were so heavy that I couldn't take liberty with money for almost 9 years after graduation. I never had more than 3 pairs of cloths in those 9 years. Ur question is about buying. My answer is not for ur own needs. U have to learn to live for others first than for yourself. My life and my wife's life has been for family. Do purchase but for others.

Not every pay day, no. It's the matter of learning some self control. Yes to live forever without any reward is pointless, and you do need to reward yourself when you can, but what do you gain from rewarding yourself, when it is going to bugger your bank account, as come the end of the month, you are going to feel worse.

Definitely as long as it's a LITTLE something. People talk about how entitled Americans feel but we feel that way because we're one of the most productive work forces in the world. We work longer hours and have fewer days off than any western nation. If you're busting your chops everyday, you deserve to have at least something to show for it. Otherwise, you'll just be angry and bitter.

Yes, You earn that money by working 8 or more hours a day 5 to 7 days a week.

I get myself some new lotion, or just a nice big ole frozen coffee, sometimes I just buy a snack I want. I don't always buy material items with it.

not every payday. If money is that tight then you need to consider who it effects.

Yes, it's an incentive to keep working and earning more money. I always buy myself something, even just a little thing. I worked all month, I figure I deserve something more than just paying bills. :)

I think the responsible person would put the money to good use. You have to make the decision for yourself what is considered "good use"
