I don't see why I need an ID Card and a ten year passport. As I've already paid for the passport I would be happy to swap them over without paying. If the crunch comes to the crunch and it's a reasonable price then yes, I'll pay for it but I'm not paying for both.
edit: Did you know that as and when they bring out ID cards. If you don't have one you can't leave the UK? No more holidays for people who won't give their details for one.

I agree with the others. No problem with having to have one. It's only those who are either here illegally or have something to hid who object to carrying them. I don't see why we should pay for one though. It's just another way of making extra revenue to go to waste (probably bailing out another ailing financial institution!) Ok pay for a replacement if you lose it and if you can't produce it when asked then expect a fine, but don;t expect us to cough up voluntarily in the first place.

We already have many different ID cards. It is more logical to have only one card, this could have eye print, finger print, DNA and other information ,such as driving licence ,medical notes etc.No problem with todays technollogy, the crunch comes when payment arises,WHO PAYS? a good subject for debate.

Most definitely!. What, after losing 15million benefit forms with bank details, passwords, addresses, next of kin and all that that!?. They expect me to splash out£ 720 for my family to tell us who we are ?. We all bl@@dy well know without paying for it. And, will that be on top of the 53 questions you have to answer when travelling by train. Close the borders and spend the money on internal defences. Or give our police, armed forces and nurses a big pay rise!.
Phew!.

Considering that they estimate the final cost for one to be around £180, it's not stealth tax but downright THEFT !!
To a family of four like mine it would involve a cost of over £720 and the expense of renewals thereafter !
It is not the cost that bothers me but the INFORMATION they will contain. I mean, when you go on holidays and present your passport to customs in another country, would you like them to know that you defaulted on two mortgage payments for example! Would you like to be treated differently from the person in the Q before you because they have never defaulted in their m'tge payments ? That is precisely what it will mean. It is not the ID card that bothers me. I have lived in countries that require one. It is THIS type of ID card and the info that will contain !!

yes definetly, the govt already has more than enough information on all of us, social security alone has my passport details, bank details, travel details when I visited the us, why should I give these details to social security, I was blackmailed into it, I was told if I did not give all the information they required, my claim for benefit would be delayed, this is blackmail, now they are blackmailing all of us into agreeing to id cards or we will all go to prison, how many new prisons are they going to build to cater for the thousands if not millions of disenters,to those who say disenters must have something to fear, I would say they are missing the point entirely, they have no concept of what 'freedom' means
