HD is a TV term. It means anything that has a resolution equal to, or higher than 1280 by 720. So a 17" or 19" monitor will meet that requirement.

There is a higher HD resolution of 1920 by 1080. You would probably have to go out of your price range to meet that.

You need to decide on the aspect ratio and the screen size.

Widescreen is good for movies and some people just prefer stuff spread across their field of view. But it is a bit less glass area and resolution than a regular screen.

LCDs look their best at the native resolution, so for some people bigger is not better. If you like larger text and icons then a 19" with a lower resolution may look better than the 20" where the higher resolution makes everything smaller on the screen. If your husband eyes are still bright and sharp, then the higher resolutions will get more information onto the screen at one time.

Here is a good place to start:

Or Shopzilla, or Pricewatch, or the data miner of your choice.

Also I would suspect that there will be some bargains on Friday, if you are willing to get up early enough for them.

whilst they say its an HDTV visual show unit, it means it comes with a inbuilt television tuner to plug in mutually with your receiver and watch television. consequently you may effectively use it as a show show screen AND a television. those with inbuilt television tuners are oftentimes extra high priced (50-a hundred funds extra) yet supply no extra earnings in terms of photograph high quality whilst in comparison with an identical visual show unit with out television tuner. Any new liquid crystal show is an "HD" visual show unit. "HD high quality" is almost a obscure term and easily relies upon on selection. you may have a visual show unit that reaches 1920x1080 selection (maximum of them do) and thats precisely what resolutions maximum HD TVs attain (subsequently the words 720p or 1080p).
