Some games that are outside the standards, but are great, fun group games:

Apples to Apples: Plays with 3-7, simple to learn, a load of fun to play. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/74

Wits and Wagers: A trivia game that you can win without ever getting a question right! Can play in teams or up to 7 individuals. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/20100

Time's Up!: A twist on charades, played in two player teams. Played in 3 rounds, with limitations making each round increasingly more challenging. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1353

Liar's Dice: Loud, raucous, lying, and bluffing. What more could you want on Christmas? Actually, a great bluffing/deduction game (but it *is* noisy!). May also be found as Perudo. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/45

Happy gaming!

Apples to Apples for sure! Scattegories is good too. I think they're both much better than Cranium and Pictionary. Trivial Pursuit is fun, but can be lopsided depending on who's playing. - - - Compatibility is another good game if you can find it.

We like Taboo and Scattagories. With Taboo, you have 2 teams of 2. You can have more than 1 game going at the same time. Scattagories can have up to, I believe, 8 players at once.

All my married friends like to get together when we can to play games. We usually play scene it, cranium, imagine if, apples to apples, and we just got scattergories that we'll be playing on thanksgiving. All of these are really fun, especially since we are all so competative.
