Heres your answer,in the comics&cartoon,he was created as a member of a race of ghosts who were never alive to begin with,so they wouldn't upset kids&parents.Never mind the movie origin.

Casper died because he was riding a slay his father bought for him and when his dad told him to come back inside he didn't. he stayed out late and got really sick and passed away.

in the cartoon, he was already dead and no explanation was ever given. then the movie came out and they said he died of hypothermia.

the answer is he fell down a well ...he was pushed down by bullies who turn out to be the other evil ghosts in the cartoon . dont know how they died
