Is it best to be in water or soil, how much sunlight is required,
does it need trimming & if so, when? etc......

You can keep it in water or soil. Dracaena (lucky bamboo) tend to grow better in soil, but It does nicely in just water. It is just a matter of preference. As for light, it requires indirect light which means that you can set it in front of a sunny window with a sheer curtain or just out of the direct light. It does not need to be trimmed unless it gets too tall and then you can prune it back just above one of the nodes. If you keep it in water just make sure it's only 2-3 inches deep or you could develop fungus or rot.

Bamboo needs plenty of water and like every plant, as much sunlight as it can get. Most of all, plenty of water.

you dont need many tips at all, my roomate had one in a bowl of rocks, all he did was make sure it had water in it and it grew very good, he still has it 5 years later.

well,,,,I'm not much of a gardner hahaha......but i would think that a bamboo plant would need lots of water and lots of sun,,,unless you mean those bamboo papers ,,,,,;)
