- Venezuela's outspoken president joined with Iran's leader Monday in boasting that they are "united like a single fist" in challenging American influence, saying the fall of the dollar is a sign that "the U.S. empire is coming down."

Hugo Chavez also joked about the most serious issue the U.S. is confronting regarding Iran — nuclear weapons — during his get-together with Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The visit came after a failed attempt by the firebrand duo to move OPEC away from pricing its oil in dollars.
"God willing, with the fall of the dollar, the deviant U.S. imperialism will fall as soon as possible, too," Chavez said after a two-hour closed meeting with Ahmadinejad, the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.
According to a Venezuelan state TV report, when a reporter asked about the aims of his visit, Chavez quipped: "As the imperialist press says, I came to look for an atomic bomb, and I've got it here. If anyone should cross me, I'll

Chavez is an international joke.

His own people hate him. That is why he is slowly pushing through laws that will make him supreme poobah and his non-democratic iron fist government a fact we will have to deal with for years to come.

Ahmadinejad and Chavez are both very short sighted with their rhetoric. While oil might hit $200.00 a barrel if Iran is attacked they have not looked at the big picture. The Oil supplies in both countries is running low their are some estimates that put it at about 20 or so years before the taps run dry, at the same time America has its strategic Oil Reserves and many untapped oil fields. So when they run dry the world will be scrambling to get as much oil as they can especially under developed regions such as Iran and Venezuela. Then we will be setting the price of oil for them, on top of all of that there is a growing movement in much of the western world and in the far east (China and India Excluded) to move to alternative energies and get off oil. They may jack up the prices I am not arguing that but in the long run they will be hurt more by it then ourselves.

Another interesting theory I heard while talking to my professor about this is that India has a growing need for oil and a huge army and a nuclear arsenal, if Iran does something to impede the flow of oilor raise the price to high the Indians may decide to take matters into their own hands.

Iran played a dangerous game trying to make itself into a world power and now they are under a close watch by the French, the British, the Israelis, the US, and so many more. It is interesting to watch this unfold

Compelling question. Look up the "petrodollar conspiracy."
Pretty scary, it makes me think we are like the Roman Empire. They over extended themselves too, instead of consolidating power, and eventually crumbled. Yeah, the dollar is losing steam. We could fix that if we had an administration that wanted to. But our current one seems only interested in class division, pushing the poor down and tax breaks for the rich, perpetuating inequity. While imposing its will on other sovereign nations.

Venezuela and Iran are threats, but not really a big one. Look ahead to China. They are the "Sleeping Giant."

One atomic bomb, while damaging, cannot destroy our country. Any nation that would make the mistake of employing nuclear weapons on another nation would incur the wrath of many nations and would have to wear lead raincoats for many years.

The dropping dollar has nothing to do with them. It 's our own fault.

They are correct, driven in to the ground by the current administration. If any of you people actually this administration has not driven the USA in to the ground, wave your hands in front of your face the smoke is too thick. PLEASE.

America and Imperialism do not mix, this is what is brining this country down. A misdirection which can be fixed, by holding to account the people which intentionally mis informed us, by propping up lies and burying the truth.

This administration has made a massive mis direction play against their citizens, to carry out a secret agenda. They MUST be held accountable for the future of our country!

Own up to it, this is OUR country!

We have lost a lot of influence and respect worldwide as a result of the failed policies of the Bush administration. This downward trend can be corrected and reversed with a new president in the White House.

Rush Limberger needs to join GWB-DC in a padded cell at Gitmo or Leavenworth.

The statements of the leaders of these 2 countries just amplifies the disdain of much of the rest of the world for US policies under this administration.

Well Ahmadinejad is a former terrorist.

Chavez is a former convict.

So who cares what they think ?

To many people want to forget that ,

Ahmadinejad was one of the terrorist, who took over the US Embassy in Tehran back in 1978.

Or that,

Chavez was sent to prison back in 1992 for trying to over throw the Democratically elected Government of Venezuela.

Chavez is only propped up the countries oil. Their oil is thick, and very heavy. It needs special technology to get it out of the ground and to refine.

Socialism doesn't have the intelligence to develop the technology needed to do this. Only the companies in the free market do, and I doubt they will cooperate.

Soon Hugo will not be able to provide the promises he made. Once this happens, he'll just be another dead dictator.
