If I break a tie rod and I'm going 65-70 mph, will that wheel stay somewhat straight (due to centrifugal force) long enough for me to slow down or will it flop around and possibly flip the car?

it may but only if you put it in newtral and dont hit the brake and dont hit a bump your probally going to loose controle as when it brakes your first raction will be to let off the gas then its to late
your wheel will turn sharp left or right it will bend back into the fender and skid

your job is to not pannic try to steer as best as you can dont hit brake your 1 tire is allready going to stop you and you need the traction of the good wheel to steer you saftly to a stop
the car will need new tyrod,, lower controle arm., and fender at a miminum

It's impossible to say what the wheel would do because there are various factors involved such as if you're going around a curve, were the brakes applied when it broke, rain, etc. One thing however is for certain. If a tie rod breaks at 65 - 70 mph you risk serious injury or death to yourself and those in your car as well as anyone who may be traveling along side of you on the highway when it breaks.

Well, this happened to me. I was going that fast merging on the the CA-60 in LA and my steering started shaking. Being from the Midwest I took my foot off the gas to hopefully slow down without major problems...but I was in the far right lane and the car started veering right at the wall on the side. Thats when I panicked (because I had no idea what the hell was happening) and pressed the brake. That is when my car TURNED LEFT on a freeway. I crossed all the lanes of traffic and hit the median with the front right corner and the back of my car, stopping perpendicular in the freeway. Luckily everyone was ok and no one else was hit in the process (something/one was looking out for us that night).
But i didn't flip, but definitely could have died. I had a mid 90s Camry, so it didnt indicate that anything was wrong and I had no idea.
Hope that helps.

my tie rod popped out in my crysler plymoth breeze, luckly i was only backing out of a parking space. i was told from the mechanics that if i was driving at a high speed it is possible for the car to flip. also my b/f works at a body shop. it will be difficult to keep control of the wheel. i would not drive the car until its fixed. mine cost almost 400 to repair the one side. they'll say u 'should' get both side done. but u dont need to.

I wouldn't want to find out. It would flop outwards the moment you hit the brake. Once it flopped outwards, it would stay there. And the natural reflex reaction would be to hit the brake.

It will cost you a lot less to fix it now than the potential major repairs, possible injuries, possible law suits, possible lost work, and possible loss of life will cost you later. I would stop driving it until it is fixed.

If it broke, and fell in a pointing forward fashion, it would eventually hang up somewhere in the road, and most likely break more parts under there... I don't think it would flip your car, but you would seriously mangle the suspension. As for the wheel, it would continue to go straight, even after you applied the break... but if you tried to steer, then it would continue to track straight, and then eventually drag sideways.
