It is a common industrial cheat. Basically one group of engineers get a product, from a competing company, and pick it apart to find out how it works. Like a computer component. Then they give instructions to another group of engineers. "We need you to build a component that can do this". They don´t get to see the component or any information on how it works. That way the finished component will not be a straight off bootleg of the original component. And there will be no lawsuits...
