the kid downstairs, first of all, is one of those 'loveable idiot'-types.
he's into Metal music, which is great, but i thought it may be time for someone to broaden his musical horizons a little.
i loaned him my Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Live at The El Macambo DVD. argueably, one of his finest shows ever.
upon his returning it, i asked 'did you watch it?'
he said, 'yeah...... but i didnt really understand it'
oh, man that floored me. all i could say was 'wow.'
for those of you that have no clue who SRV is, here's a sample:

Maybe he is light in the "love-able" area and too heavy in the "idiot" area?

First off let me say I loved your Texas Flood Cd....And as far as the Live at The El Mocambo goes... Your correct , this is without a doubt his Best work on Video or Dvd... The coolest part is that it was filmed in that little club,,, there sound was just a little raw which added to the Greatness....Pure and Simple Stevie Ray was one of the best Guitar players of our generation...

He's a really great guitarist for sure. Maybe the kid downstairs didn't understand SRV's singing.
You could explain it to him to broaden his musical horizons a little.
Perhaps he'll appreciate it more when he's abit older & has abit more life experience.

As sad as it is, it really doesn't surprise me really...because there is a whole generation out there that think remakes of songs are better than the originals. I bet if he listened to it a couple of times, he'd see the greatness in SRV....I don't know how anyone couldn't.....
Kids these days....are just plain weird....randomness seems to be what pleases them the most....

SRV is my favorite of all time! And in my opinion the greatest guitarist ever! Imagine the music he could have made if it was not for that terrible accident. I never got the chance to see him play but I have all of his albums. My fav album is Soul to Soul.

That's an awesome piece, but I can totally understand a kid not getting it. I think you've got to have a certain amount of living under your belt before you can realllllly understand the blues. The kid just don't know how to (feel) yet.

alot of kids have no idea who the groups and rockstars of the past are...their parents dont find it important to expose them to things like this...my kids can tell you...they listen to everything..my son is huge into metallica and ac/dc my daughter on the other hand loves saliva..but its nothing to go on a road trip and sing country or even aaron neville the entire time...its all about their exposure..and obviously he hasnt had any to the good stuff

look, he either gets Vaughan, or he doesn't. don't sweat it. i'm impressed that he even watched it considering he's a metal head, who in my experience, primarily stick to metal.
in all honesty i would have asked to view whatever he's into and taken the discussion from there. we can teach best through example.
