And these are the people who are (apparently) going to make a secure, unhackable database for ID cards in which information will in no way be lost or compromised?

*shakes head sadly*

The discs need strong encryption (128-bit or higher) for a start, and this would be the obvious thing to do. The password should then be a long string of lowercase & uppercase letters, numbers and symbols. If this has been used, then it will take a hacker some time to crack into it. But if they have used a crap encryption method and a crap password, then it will be broken into in about 5 minutes. As far as I'm aware, the discs "haven't fallen into the wrong hands yet" according to the police. I also heard that the Government knew about this problem for a week before coming clean. So what's really going on is anyone's guess. Let's just hope they have a good I.T department who had the sense to use a strong encryption method.

First I've heard of it but it's not good is it.
But no doubt there will be a cover up from the government as always.
Let's just hope that they have been lost and not stolen.
