A week ago unfortunately my Pontiac Grand Prix GTP was totaled in an accident. My husband removed the car bra but not the hardware - you know the snaps you snap your car bra into around the nose of the car. My question is where do I get this replacement hardware?

I'm picking up my new gtp today...woohoo!

Metallma... - Hi - I know the downside of car bras - I like the car bra for the looks and keeping bug goo off the nose of my car - My car is kept garaged and I do proper cleaning cycles so my car paint/body do not get damaged from it's use. Car bra gets rmoved when it rains & gets put away in the winter.

Thank you for your comments. :-)

sorry about the accident and i'm glad your ok.

now about car bras. if you like your new gtp, then for the love of god DONT put the bra on it. you may like the looks of it, and thats fine. and i'm sure you think it protects your paint. it doesnt. infact it does the complete opposite.

what happens is dirt and grim get under the bra. then when you drive the bra moves and flexs cause of the wind. so pretty much what happens is your putting sandpaper on your car. the result over time will be the same.

you can prevent this if you wash under the bra atleast once a week, in the summer. and about once every day or two in the winter.

so if i were you i wouldnt even worry about the bra. unless you have to time to wash it a LOT. its not good for your paint.

good luck

My suggestion is that you get rid of the car bra/mask. Over time they collect dirt and grit that causes more damage to the cars finish than going without, even if you remove the cover and clean it occasionally. Even if you you believe the mask is tight and secure at highway speeds it will move and vibrate causing permanent damage to your cars finish, in most cases over a greater area than road debris alone. No easy solutions on this subject.

TRY colgan.com they manufacture bra's with mirror covers too. It would not hurt to buy another bra to machine wash and have ready to swap out. MY 2006 pontiac GTO will have it's bra on for the cold weather and sand on the roads by next weekend. Good place for parts new Colgan bra is afterthoughtsauto.com.

Sorry 'bout the G/P. You can get this type of snaps from almost anyone who sells, repairs, or fits convertibles, truck tanneaus, or (obvious) car bras. Most of them are made with a screw shaft that will mount in a pre-drilled hole.
