To air dirty laundry is to tell the deep dark secrets that you don't want anyone else to know. If you a desperate housewives watcher a good example was when Bree's husband Rex was seeing the prostitute. Everybody found out about it (their dirty laundry was aired!) It is basically things that people shouldn't know or that you really don't want them to know about you.

It means to reveal ones personal and not good qualities/habits/deeds publicly. Things other people don't need to know and don't necessarily care to know.
Eg: an affair someone may have had with someone who is supposed to be off limits, and is quite proud and unashamed to reveal to all. That's a good example of dirty laundry.

No. I was raised to keep my problems private, and not broadcast them all over for the world to know. Stiff upper lip, let a smile be your umbrella, and all that sort of putting on a good public face sort of thing. Has nothing to do with being a push over but everything to do with keeping ones private life private.
