I once let go of someone only to realize that maybe there is just one true & great love for each one of us... That one person with that special smile, that special way of looking at you that makes you feel as though you are the most important person in the world. The very same person who makes your heart beat faster & brings out the best & the worst in you. That rare person who can make your life a series of upheavals, a rollercoaster ride of mixed feelings & bittersweet moments. The person who will make you define & defy love.

Sadly, in most cases, as was in mine, that person is usually the one who got away... and we never know what we got till it's gone.

ouch naman! Seems like the story of my life...falling for the right person (maybe?) but always at the wrong time and/or place. ouch talaga! Happened once and now, happening again. Not really a case of "the one that got away" but more like "the one that MUST go away." Oh the tangled web we weave!!!

"the one that MUST go away"...too dramatic so lemme rephrase that - how about "the one who can NOT stay".... as if it's any better

It is a very romantic notion that there is only "one" soulmate for any of us. That when we miss that connection we somehow must settle for "second best" Bula Bula
FIRST Falling in love is a matter of the right time.....the right place.....and the right person.....change any of those factors and we do not have love. There are literally thousands of potential "soulmates" in the world.
SECOND The human mind tends to remember the good. The memory even embellish positive memories and fogs the bad memories. We remember how handsome he was but forget how when he used to chew with his mouth open it made us sick.
THIRD Memory is constant, Reality changes. I am not the same man I was yesterday; and not the same man I will be tomorrow. Likely if you met your long lost love, you would hardly recognise him. He would be a different person.
FOURTH Relationships are constantly changing. When they first start there is the excitement of someone new. The passion of someone new. As you stay together boredom sets in. The excitement fades. You begin to miss the old excitement. You begin to fantascize about a new lover or rekindling an old one that was not completed. When I was a callow youth I used to specialize in seducing married ladies. I would look for those 3-5 years into their marriage. That was when they started to get bored with their husbands and their married life. I was a real bastard but I had all the sex I could handle.
FIFTH Concentrate on making your current relationship work. Change things so you both do not get bored.Love is like a beautiful flower garden. It takes work to keep it beautiful. Neglect it and "weeds" will creap in and destroy it.

Yes. The guy's married already and his wife is pregnant with their second child. The guy I'm with now is great. I just don't get along pretty well with his mom, unlike the mom of "the one who got away", hehe.

Oh well, you just can't have everything in life. But there is much to be thankful for so cheer up! :)

You bet. I was very young at that time, 19 to be exact. I didn't believe it was the real thing, more like a puppy love. But for him, it was for keeps. He was only a year older than me but had the kind of maturity only seen in older men; maybe because he lost his mother at a young age and his father remarried not long after his wife died. He was the youngest and all his elder siblings either took off and went abroad. So, he had to look after himself and maybe that made him become responsible and matured for his age. Anyway, I soon lost my "passion" for him and broke off. It was only after I got married, years later, that I thought of him. Maybe my life would have been different...maybe it was karma or what but, I believe I would have had a happier, fulfilling and enriching life with him had I married him.

OMG! That happened to me too! It's sad but I learned to move on but sometimes I still think of him a lot. It's also more painful for me because we did not go our separate ways in a good way. I pushed him away from me due to my stupid pride and now all I have are regrets. Maybe he really is the one for me. Maybe not but among the men that I dated, he was the most expressive, understanding, loving, patient and kind. Even my snooty cat adores him!

Yes we were thrown to opposite and distant shores across turbulent waters, and the physical separation proved to be a huge deep chasm that we could not bridge.

Yes, my little angel. Though not actually "the one who got away", she was a year and a half years old when she was taken away from us.

For me I don't think I have one. Although maybe I have some "MAYBE you are the one who got away"

If you are still single, it might not be too late. Maybe you can still say "Hey! You are the one who almost got away!" Check out this piece: http://oo-maldita-oo.blogspot.com/2007/11/one-who-got-away.html

--p.s. it's not my piece but I don't remember who is the author so I can;t give proper credit. Sorry..

Yes, but I don't want to get it into my nerves. I am sure, someone out there is better than that other person. I must move on so as to be able to cope up in preparing for my future. Everything will be in its proper places IN GOD's TIME.
Cheers!!!!!!
