i do not think i have ever heard of hurricane that far inland ? usually it is on water / beach front ? coastlines of cities ? seems to be associated with waves / lots of water damages

Your question as to how often hurricanes hit Orlando is rather complex. As a resident of Orlando from 1942 until 2003, I never saw a real hurricane hit Orlando. In my early years we had some big wind storms and without TV like we have today, we don't know what they we.

My dad had a grocery store and lost lots of meat while Orlando was without power after small storms, not hurricanes.

In 1960 when Hurricane Donna played havoc with Orlando, I was in Africa with the US Army. So I missed that one, my folks tell of mopping water all night long.

While in my mid twenties, I would go to hurricane parties, plenty of partying but no hurricanes. A Yahoo Search shows over 825,000 sites about Orlando hurricanes, I didn't look at all of them but no named storms other that Donna then Charley.

So an unscientific opinion shows 44 years between major hurricanes. 1960 Hurricane Donna, 2004 Hurricane Charley.

In 2004 I think we had 4 affect us w/2 being a hit. Charlie was a direct hit and I think that Jeanne was too. Where I was in Kissimme which borders Orlando, Charlie's eye went thru as a category 2. We were being called blue roof city in reference to the tarps.
