are controlling every aspect of peoples lives? Also, by questioning this, would this make a person at least a little free from that control?

"Do you feel government and religion...?
are controlling every aspect of peoples lives?"

Not in the US (yet) and other secularized countries, but in other countries, yes, and in many aspects government and religion are one and the same.

"Also, by questioning this, would this make a person at least a little free from that control?"

Not really when a country's laws are based on religious dictates. Or someone lives under a dictatorship.

It's sad that we in the US are happily giving up many of our freedoms.

Fortunately we live in a country with a lot of religious freedom, so for the most part religion only controls you as much as you allow it to. I say "for the most part" because I have seen some fundamentalist sects that effectively brainwash their members. This is kinda heartbreaking to see when it's a kid; kids being brought up to believe that everyone not of their church is evil I think borders on child abuse. Fortunately, these fundie churches are still small in number and will likely never become mainstream.

As for gov't, that's a bit more of a threat, because they're the ones who make the rules we live by, whether we like it or not. Democracy in this country is a joke; election laws and the media have both been extremely effective at shutting out 3rd parties and other alternate views. It's been estimated that the total cost of gov't (local, state & federal) eats up nearly half our incomes, when you include everything: all taxes (income, sales, property, etc.), regulations, fees, national debt interest payments, etc. In addition, our current gov't has made it plain that civil liberties are a very, VERY low priority behind national security. While the next administration will probably be Democratic, I sincerely doubt based on past history that few if any of the current infringements on our liberties will be repealed. The Great Myth of our system is that there's any real difference between the Dems & Repubs. On election day, your choice is between two sides of the same coin.

And so with Dems doing nothing to protect our liberties and Repubs doing nothing to shrink the size of gov't, that cancer eating away at our country continues to grow ever bigger. Any economist worth his salt will tell you that the growth of our gov't is fiscally unsustainable, but the big question will be, will we come to our senses and have another Tea Party, or will we let ourselves become so dependent on it that it implodes our country like what happened to the Soviet Union?

Religion controls an individual and Group of individuals controls the Government so you see they are in some way or other related to each other.

But one should Feel relaxed with the Beliefs he has towards religion. Unless you are Convienced you can't whole heartedly follow the religion.

The only action that counteracts the control is to first separate them and then educate people to do for themselves what they can do for themselves and not depend on external powers any more than absolutely necessary.

Theocracy is the punishment for relying on external forces and war its usual outcome.
Look at the religious base for the Iraq war. Look at Iran. Communism was a form of religion. It has been replaced by Mammonism and is being enforced with governmental power all over the world.

not entirely. but i think they try their best to, but will never fully control people. because we are born with total freedom, and that is why we have government and police.
