He campaigned telling the American people all about how the government would live up to it's responsibility to them. On his first day he reneged and said: "Ask not what your country can do for you.....etc".
He started a war in Cuba. He escalated a war in South East Asia that became the longest war in US history. He stood around with his hands in his pockets when the Soviets ravaged Hungary. He antagonized the Soviets with listening devices in Turkey so that they responded with ICBMS in Cuba and brought the globe to the Brink of incineration.
He tried to re-segregate the military in Oxford Mississippi.
He ignored Martin Luther King and set the stage for race riots in our streets. His dalliances with women in the White House make Clinton look like a Friar.
He did it all in 1000 days. For this we named High Schools and an airport after him. No thanks. I don't want him back.

Maybe. The stances of the political parties change over the years. It was the democrats who fought for the confederacy. Take into consideration that as time goes on what was once liberal becomes accepted, and then conservative and he probably would be Republican, or at least a conservative democrat. Just because the parties ideology used to be something doesn't mean it is today.

He was an old style democrat, back when the democrat party was well respected in the world. If he were here today he would be a Republican. He loved his country and was willing to fight for her. The thought of actively working against the interests of his country would be abhorrant to him, as it is to most Americans.

Yes, and he was a liberal, and proud of it. This quote from John F Kennedy should erase all doubts in your mind.

"What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then ... we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."
